February is writing month I'm told (at least for us musician types). FAWM runs a challenge for song writers across the country to write a song a day for the month of February. Well that's crazy. Don't get me wrong, I could probably pound out a bunch of very simple ditties everyday, but my goal is writing tunes for Pesky J. Nixon. When you're writing for a three voices and many instruments 28 ditties aren't really helpful 14 full blown tunes are. So I'm halving the goal - but keep in mind that means I indend to write an album's worth of tunes in 28 days. Join me here as I fail, succeed, cry, laugh, and bang my head into the wall.
Along with posting videos and audio clips of what I'm working on I'm going to write about the writing process in general as well as the various pearls of wisdom I've picked up through reading from, working with and getting feedback from some really great folks in the folk, pop, and indie world about writing. Feel free to start a conversation, I'm interested in what you have to say.
Lastly, although this isn't an explicit fun-raising project. My group, Pesky J. Nixon, is working on putting together its second album right now. Its funding from our fans, friends, and family that will dictate whether we have a twelve song full disc or an ep of five tunes. Please take note of our link to Feed The Muse on the right side of my blog and at least take a minute to see the options we've made available for being part of that effort (we're even happy to let you play on the album. Come on! How ballsy is that?).
Keep readin' I'll keep writing.
